We've got a storm kit with water, a few of our meds (canine/human), copies of scrips, first aid kit, water, a flashlight, batteries, battery operated radio, a couple of cans of soup, my small propane stove with a tank of fuel, a small saucepan and plastic tableware, 1 lb of dog food and a few plastic bags. We keep it in what is the safest place in our house, the basement bathroom. Knock wood, tornadoes don't seem to come into the bend of the Mississippi very often.

best,
DaveAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6506901547084973023.post-59022600632368994002013-01-31T17:10:46.315-06:002013-01-31T17:10:46.315-06:00Pel and I both love sunny and 70s. Unfortunately, living in Iowa, what we're much more likely to get, except briefly in late Spring and late Fall, are temperatures 90+ with humidity anywhere from 90% and up. That doesn't stop us however. We try to take each day as a gift and Pel helps me greatly with that attitude. With shade and water always available (t'would be beer for me) we can stand it well into the 100 degree range on the deck but movement is generally curtailed to turning a page or swapping a carving tool. Next summer may be different though, because I swear by Almighty Dog, Pel and I are going sailing whenever we can. Pel gets motion sick so I envision my Bonine bill climbing upwards. In truly bad weather, as today with windchills well into the negative teens, I set a timer on the microwave for five minutes and finished or not, His Royal Highness, the Prince of Chilly Nose is coming back in if not finished before then.

Best,
Dave and Pel WT in IowaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6506901547084973023.post-86391662263768480962013-01-30T16:38:41.957-06:002013-01-30T16:38:41.957-06:00Tried to comment the other day but I don't thi...Tried to comment the other day but I don't think it went through... our dog Buddy will reach out a paw and touch you whenever he is being petted or scratched. If he's sitting up he will rest a paw on your arm; if he is on his back he will reach up and make contact with you somewhere. He seems to need that connection and is always so happy and grateful for the attention.
- Susan Msamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03422441532210271158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6506901547084973023.post-78892196415047602592013-01-28T20:38:00.964-06:002013-01-28T20:38:00.964-06:00My cat Griffin greets all guests by jumping up on ...My cat Griffin greets all guests by jumping up on his scratching post in the living room and demanding to be petted! I think if you're the kind of person who really truly considers a dog(s) part of your family the planning process and even everyday living has to include them just as much as it has to include children.
Neither children and dogs cannot take care of themselves. I usually don't have to wait to realize it however as Martha is good about pointing out things I need to work on...(teeth gritting behind a smile) I will be more active this year as it improves my outlook, my sense of physical well being and my health. That will affect Pel as part of that increased activity is walking with him. It will probably affect him in other ways also as I'll be out of the house more and he's gotten used to having me here a lot. Four years post divorce for us and my daughter said she feels like she has 2 houses but no home. Also said she still hopes her dad and I will get back together. Wow. I feel like I work hard to make a comfortable, nurturing family and home. So it's hard to hear your kids say they feel that way. kzooknoedelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08912744427123576975noreply@blogger.com
